Star Trek Beyond is a 2016 American science fiction action film directed by Justin Lin. It is the thirteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise. It was released in cinemas in July 2016.

New Star Trek Franchise
J.J. Abrams brought Star Trek movies back to cinemas with the 2009 reboot of Star Trek franchise. The second sequel was in 2013 and it was called Star Trek: Into Darkness. The third film takes Star Trek into a new direction to mark its 50th anniversary.
Justin Lin director takes over from Abrams at the helm whilst Simon Pegg co-writes the script with Doug Jung.
During the film there is also reference to Ambassador Spock which refers to the Spock character from the original tv series. Also you see a portrait of the crew of original Star Trek series.

Plot
Struggling to come to terms with his father’s formidable legacy, Kirk is still adjusting to the role of Captain and leader. Standing alongside him is half-human, half-Vulcan Spock, Uhura, Dr Bones and Scotty. But when the Enterprise comes under attack from deadly new enemy Krall, the entire crew is plunged into another nail-biting battle for survival.
