Space Launchers:
Kourou in French Guiana is the Space Port for all European space launches. Currently the Ariane-5 is operational from there. Ariane-4 is no longer used.
In the future, 2 new launch vehicles will be launched for Kourou:
1. The ESA Vega launcher might have its first launch in 2007. The Ariane-1 launch facilities are being adapted for its use. Development of the Vega launcher started in 1998.
2. Russia
and Europe are establishing launch facilities for the Russian Soyuz-ST rockets
from the Kourou space center in French Guiana. The first launch of the new Soyuz
may take place in 2007.
