Star Wars is an epic science fantasy saga and fictional universe created by writer/producer/director George Lucas during the late 1970s. Over the next thirty years, Lucas and other writers developed the Star Wars saga with additional films, dvd, books, and other works. 


All six movies are directed by George Lucas. Remember Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader? Six Star Wars movies have been made so far. The sixth film and latest Star Wars film is called Revenge of the Sith and was shown in cinemas in 2005.

1.    Star Wars - Episode IV (1977)
Stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher

The first film was originally released on May 25, 1977. It was later renamed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, originally released as Star Wars The 1977 science fantasy film was written and directed by George Lucas. It was the first of six films released in the Star Wars saga.

Story: The movie opens with a rebel ship being boarded by the evil Darth Vader. The plot then follows the life of Luke Skywalker as he and his newly met allies (Han Solo, Chewbacca, Ben Kenobi, C-3PO, R2-D2) attempt to rescue a rebel leader, Princess Leia, from the clutches of the Empire. The conclusion is culminated as the Rebels, including Skywalker and flying ace Wedge Antilles make an attack on the Empires most powerful and ominous weapon, the Death Star.

2.    The Empire Strikes Back - Episode V (1980)
Stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher

This was the second film.

3.    Return of the Jedi - Episode VI (1983)
Stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams.

Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and the rest of the rebels prepare last battle to rid the galaxy of the evil empire once and for all, but first they must rescue their friend Han solo from the clutches of alien gangster Jabba the Hutt. Luke Skywalker faces his destiny as his friends reunite to destroy the new Death Star.

This is the final part of George Lucas's original sci-fi trilogy. This movie introduced the Ewoks.

4.    The Phantom Menace - Episode 1 (1999)

This First Episode follows the young years of Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader). The friendship of Obi-wan Kenobi, Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn are also central aspects. And the beginning of the rise to power of Senator Palpatine to Emperor. This movie introduced Jar Jar Binks.

5.    Attack of the Clones - Episode II (2002)

Stars: Ewan McGregor  as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Natalie Portman  as Senator Padmé Amidala, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Christopher Lee as Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu

Ten years after the 'Phantom Menace' threatened the planet Naboo, Padmé Amidala is now a Senator representing her homeworld. A faction of political separatists, led by Count Dooku, attempts to assassinate her. There aren't enough Jedi to defend the Republic against the threat, so Chancellor Palpatine enlists the aid of Jango Fett, who promises that his army of clones will handle the situation. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi continues to train the young Jedi Anakin Skywalker, who fears that the Jedi code will forbid his growing romance with Amidala.

6.    Revenge of the Sith - Episode III (2005)

After three years of fighting in the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker concludes his journey towards the Dark Side of the Force, putting his friendship with Obi Wan Kenobi and his marriage at risk. Anakin's wife Padme is pregnant, but he is having visions of her dying in childbirth. Meanwhile a Sith lord is manipulating the Council, Obi-Wan is chasing the robotic separatist leader General Grievous and Yoda helps the Wookies defend themselves against the droid armies on Kaschyyyk.

A maturing Anakin Skywalker goes to the dark side of The Force and becomes Sith Lord Darth Vader. We experience the transformation in a dark, scary yet thrilling climax. The story here logically sets up the events of Episode IV, the original 1977 Star Wars movie in which Darth Vader goes to war against his own children, Luke and Leia.

Please note: the original trilogy was released between 1977 and 1983 and were episodes IV–VI. The prequel trilogy which consisted of episodes I–III  was released between 1999 and 2005.

The star wars music for all six films were written by John Williams.
