The purpose of Salyut 8 Space Station would be to master 3 year long duration mission with no resupply ships.
The crew have to survive with the rations on board. This can be a trial for a long duration missions for the future.
The spacestation is based on an updated Salyut 7. Sponsorships could possibly finance
this! One possibility is that it could become part of Mircorp's Commercial
Endeavours. I
believe there is a market for the Salyut 8 Concept. Once Salyut 8 is created, other Salyuts can be mass
manufactured.
