
The Phobos Spacecraft consisted of Phobos 1 and Phobos 2. They were launched by the Proton Rocket.

Phobos 1 was launched on July 7, 1988. Phobos 2 on July 12, 1988. Communication was lost with Phobos 1 before it reached Mars. Phobos 2 went into orbit around Mars in January 1989, but contact was lost on 27 March when it had approached to within 800 km (497 miles) of Phobos.
