" First
Space Tourist in Space
"
Date: Monday 24th, April, 2001
aerospaceguide.net
had its First Real Web Review
The review is in a British Magazine called " Web Pages Made
Easy " on page 68, issue 16. Three quarters of the page is
an analysis of Aerospaceguide.
The synopsis says " superb source of information on the
aerospace industry, good overall design, excellent range of
online service, well thought out for the interested surfer, very
confusing navigation: need for a site map, 1,000 pixel-wide
window required for proper view". If you see the magazine
in a shop whereever you are in the world, please have a look at
it. I think you will be proud of the web review.
Space News in Brief
* The first space tourist (Dennis Tito) is
going to be launched between 29-30 April to the ISS as one of
the crew. They will be swapping the Soyuz Life Boat.
* In march, the White House ordered NASA to make savings of $4
billion over the next 3 years due to the ISS's soaring price
tag. NASA plans to save half of the $ 4 billion by axing the
rescue vehicle, a propulsion module and a crew habition module.

No. 13 " Mir Slashed down in the Pacific Ocean "
Date: Friday 23rd, March, 2001
First of all, I would like to apologize to
you all if you got offended by my comment in yesterday's
newsletter.
" It is sad to see Mir go. In the future people will look
back and consider Mir Space Station's achievement as Great as
America's Moon Landing!"
A few members unsubscribed from the mailing list and sent me
email complaints. I showed the email to some of my friends in
Dublin and they could not see anything wrong with it.
I know getting to the moon and back was a tremendous achievement
for the USA. Equally Mir was permanently occupied from 1989 to
1999 and that was not an easy task.
Last night I followed all the action on the internet and I
listened to CNN as I replied to the email complaints and edited
the web site. In the next few nights I will revamp the Mir Space
Station pages.
HOW I FEEL?
I now have 94 members in the mailing list and want you all to be
happy with my work. If you feel I am doing something wrong,
please email. I always listen. Don't forget I am a 1 man band
and it takes alot of work to update the pages.
Once again, I truly apologize to you all.

I have tried to make the Space Quiz more interactive. It is now
part of the Main Sections. Please note it is partially
in-complete. I ran out of time when I was updating last time in
the Internet Cafe. I think it is easier for me to have the
answers on the page than to include it in the newsletter.

Please test the Quiz! Would you prefer 5 questions or 10
questions? Please email me =) vic_stathopoulos@yahoo.com
Last September, I was in London and I visited the Dome. One of
the exhibits included an Ascender Spaceplane Model (sub-orbital
Aeroplane). I read it would cost them 50 million British Pounds
(80 million US Dollars) to build.

I found an interesting elecronic book called "2001 Military
Space Operations - ...Satellites,
Missiles, Spaceplanes..." and added it to the Space Shop.

No. 9 " Space Quiz "
Date: Thursday
18th, January, 2001
In the last newsletter, I mentioned "The 21st Century's
First Total Eclipse" was on January 9th. I am afraid I was
really disappointed! Why? At 5 pm the sky was crystal clear in
Dublin, Ireland and by 8 pm, the sky was clouded. At least I saw
it on TV.
I have introduced a 10 question Space Quiz which is accessible
via the Home Page. The questions will be changed monthly,
depending on the response. The answers to the questions will
only be available by clicking on the red listbot mailing list
and reading the archives or via this email newsletter. I hope
this will convince people to join the mailing list!
Some excellent news! I have been given permission by David A
Hardy to add some of his paintings on Aerospaceguide. When I
look at Davids's Paintings the word "Magnificent"
comes to my mind. Perhaps its better to say "Wow!".
Please check David's Web Site and please read his Biography and
view his paintings!

No. 8 " The 21st Century's First Total Eclipse "
Date: Tuesday
9th, January, 2001
Welcome to the first newsletter of the year 2001! The first
newsletter will be about the eclipse!
This morning I heard on the radio that there will be a total
eclipse in Western Europe, Africa and Parts of Asia (I knew
about it ages ago, but I forgot).
Did you know? In some cultures, where ancient superstitions
persist, people are still frightened by the moon darkening and
turning "blood red".
It will begin at 6.42 pm (UK/Irish Time) when the moon starts to
enter the Earth's shadow. As the Earth gets between the sun and
moon, a "bite" will appear to be taken from one side.
Gradually the "bite" -the curved edge of the Earth's
shadow - will creep across the moon's face until at 7.50 pm the
whole lunar surface will be covered.
For the next hour the moon will be greatly dimmed but still
visible and by 9.59 the moon will have drifted back into the
sun's glare.
Aerospaceguide does not have a page on eclipses at the moment.
