Sink Mir Space Station

Is it true that USA are interested in sinking of Mir?

NASA's attitude all along has been to get rid of Mir. Mir may be aging, but the international partners involved with Mir could of maintained Mir until the ISS (International Space Station) was in full operation.

The other alternative was to replace the original Mir Core Module and simply expanded the station with the new modules. Obviously NASA wanted to be the leader of its own Space Station. If the alternative route was choosen, the ISS could been built cheaper.
