The Mars Observer was a Nasa Mars Probe that was launched on the 25th September 1992 by Titan IIIe-TOS from Cape Canaveral. It was the first of the Observer series of missions.
It was designed to study the geoscience and climate of Mars. It suffered a mechanical failure and became silent after sending only one picture of Mars back to Earth. Although none of the primary objectives of the mission were achieved, cruise mode data were collected up to loss of contact.
