Doctor Who - The Ark
Starring
William Hartnell (Release Date: 14
February
2011 in UK and March 8 in USA)
The TARDIS arrives some ten million years in the future on
a giant spaceship carrying all the Earth's surviving
plant, animal and human life (much of it miniaturised and
in suspended animation) on a 700 year voyage to a new home
on the planet Refusis II. Dodo is suffering from a cold -
an unknown affliction in this era - and as the human
Guardians of the ship and their servant race the Monoids
have no resistance, a plague breaks out.
The Guardians place the travellers on trial and Steven is
forced to defend them against allegations that they spread
the disease deliberately. Fortunately, the Doctor finds a
cure. The TARDIS leaves the spaceship, which Dodo has
nicknamed the Ark, only to arrive back there as it is
approaching the end of its voyage. Partly as a result of
the earlier plague, the Monoids have now grown strong and
enslaved the humans. They plan to make Refusis II their
own but, with the help of the invisible Refusians, the
Doctor is able to persuade the two races to live together
in peace.

Doctor Who: The Mutants (Story 63)
Starring: Jon Pertwee, Katy Manning
(Release Date: 8 February
2011 in USA)
Jon Pertwee's Doctor is sent
by the Time Lords to deliver a mysterious sealed container
to an unknown recipient. So begins the penultimate
adventure in the ninth series (1972), a run that also
included 'The Sea Devils' and 'The Day of the Daleks'. The
Doctor and Jo (Katy Manning), find themselves on a space
station belonging to Earth's crumbling 30th-century
empire, while below the planet Solos is on the verge of
independence, a situation the corrupt Marshal (Paul
Whitsun-Jones) is at pains to avert. What follows is a
tale of opposing factions, assassination, genetic
mutations, and running around in caves. The story concerns
the aftermath of empire, a topic very relevant in the
Britain of 1972 and the devastating environmental effects
of industrial development (though with the ecology
movement then gathering force, the following year's "The
Green Death" addressed similar topics far more
effectively).

proof. Shortly after landing on a beach in England, they
discover a Viking helmet, but Steve remains unconvinced.
Instructing Steve and Vicki to wait with the TARDIS, the
Doctor seeks further proof. Heedless of the Doctor's
warning, Steven persuades Vicki to explore the cliffs
above the beach, where they find an abandoned wristwatch.
Meanwhile, the Doctor investigates a ruined monastery,
where he encounters an electric toaster, a gramophone
playing ecclesiastic chants, and a monk who traps him in
an alcove. Eventually, the Doctor realizes that the famous
Battle of Hastings is only a few weeks away. That should
provide ample proof for Steven, but who is this mysterious
monk, and what is his interest in the events of 1066?

This collection of episodes focuses
on the transition of doctors played by Tom Baker and Peter
Davidson, across three stories - 'The Keeper Of Traken', 'Logopolis'

Doctor Who - The Key to
Time (Complete Boxset)
Uniting six complete
stories across a full series of Doctor Who in one
quest, the Key To Time saga is an ambitious,
sometimes too ambitious, piece of television that
nonetheless has plenty within it to recommend it.
Starring Tom Baker as Doctor Who he's given a
quest by the White Guardian to track down the six
constituent parts of the Key to Time. Thus, each of the
six stories sees the Doctor and Mary Tamm's Romana
hunting down one of the segments.
In many ways showing
the highs and the lows of Doctor Who in the late
1970s, the Key To Time has some very distinct
highlights: the Pirate Planet, Androids Of Tara and the
story that wraps the saga up, The Armageddon Factor.
Ironically, it all gets off to a low start with the
tepid The Ribos Operation, while The Power Of Kroll is
just silly. Even by Doctor Who standards!
