Doctor Who 2012 is series 7 (Season 33). It features Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. Series 7 introduces Clara, a new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 2012 Christmas Special.

Series 7 (Season 7) - Eleventh Doctor


Series 7 consisted of 13 episodes: 6 episodes in Autumn 2012 (Part 1) including Christmas Special 2012 and 8 episodes in early 2013 (Part 2).

The following list is split into part 1 and part 2  below. The list of the names of the episodes and original UK viewing dates:

PART 1

1. Asylum of the Daleks (1 Episode) - 1 September 2012 on BBC One
     Writer: Steven Moffat                        
     Director
: Nick Hurran.

The 1st story of Doctor Who Series 7 will feature Daleks. Part-set in Ancient China. The Chinese Emperor gives the Doctor a task to complete. It features “Every Dalek known to man".

2. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship (1 Episode) - 8 September 2012
     Writers: Chris Chibnall.
     Director
: Saul Metzstein

Set in Ancient Egypt. Features Queen Nefertiti, Rory’s dad and robots.

3. A Town called Mercy (1 Episode) - 15 September 2012
     Writers: Toby Whithouse.
     Director
: Saul Metzstein

Takes place in America’s old west, where the Doctor will face a cyborg called the Reckoner. This episode was filmed in Spain.

The Gunslinger was the speculated name of this episode.

4. The Power of Three (1 Episode)  - 22 September 2012
     Writers: Chris Chibnall
     Director
: Douglas Mackinnon

This Chris Chibnall’s second episode of Series 7.

Features black cubes? Features Unit. Cubed was the speculated name of this episode.

5. The Angels take Manhattan (1 Episode) - 29 September 2012
     Writers: Steven Moffat
     Director
: Nick Hurran

This is the final episode to feature Amy and Rory and feature the Weeping Angels. River Song (Alex Kingston) will appear in this episode.

Location filming in New York.

This is the last episode of Series 7 - part 1. Series 7 continued in 2013.


Christmas Special

The Snowmen  - (1 Episode) 25th December 2012

Introduces a new companion - played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.


PART 2

6. The Bells of Saint John - (1 Episode) - 30 March 2013
     Writers: Steven Moffat
     Director
: Colm McCarthy

The first Doctor Who episode of 2013. The Doctor finds Clara and he is wearing monks clothes.

7. The Rings of Akhaten (1 Episode) - 6 April 2013
     Writers: Mark Gatiss
     Director
: Douglas Mackinnon

Clara wants to see something awesome so the Doctor takes her to see the festival of offering at the Rings of Akhaten.

8. Cold War  (1 Episode) - 13 April 2013
     Writers: Neil Cross
     Director
: Farren Blackburn

Submarine under siege story. Something attacks the Doctor and crew of submarine. Features an Ice Warriors.

9. Hide (1 Episode) - 20 April 2013
     Writers: Neil Cross
     Director
: Jamie Payne

Features ghosts. It was speculated it was called 'Phantoms of the Hex'

10. Journey to the Centre of the Tardis (1 Episode) - 27 April 2013
     Writers: Stephen Thompson
     Director
: Mat King

The TARDIS has crashed, Clara is lost inside and the Doctor has 30 minutes before his ship explodes! The episode features three brothers from an intergalactic salvage crew.

This is the first tv story to include the word 'TARDIS' in its title. The Eye of Harmony is seen in its entirety for the first time in this episode.

11. The Crimson Horror  (1 Episode) - 4 May 2013
     Writers: Mark Gatiss
     Director
: Saul Metzstein

Madame Vastra and Jenny may return in Episode 12.

12. Nightmare in Silver (1 Episode) - 11 May 2013
     Writers:  Neil Gaiman
     Director
: Stephen Woolfenden

Cybermen return.

It was speculated the episode was going to be called 'The Last Cyberman'.
 

13. The Name of the Doctor (1 Episode) - 18 May 2013
     Writers:  Steven Moffat
     Director
: Saul Metzstein

Final episode of Series 7. Madame Vastra, Jenny and  River Song return.

Someone is kidnapping the Doctor’s friends, leading him towards the one place in all of time and space that he should never go.

Feature new aliens called the Whispermen.

History

In August 2012

“Absolute nonsense. First of all, we are airing in 2012. The only thing that’s happening is that we’re moving a bit later,” he explained. “There’s lots of reasons for that that will become clear quite soon…It is certainly not a reduced episode count. Do you think the BBC would really let that happen? With an average audience of 10 million?…Doctor Who’s international profile is huge. It’s never been more successful. You’re not going to reduce a show like this. The opposite is going to happen, in fact.”

Filming for series 7 began on 20 February 2012.

Filming with the new companion began in May 2012.
